A transitory journey into the mind of author Sinead MacDughlas A widow, a mother, a cat burglar, a writer, a young goddess, an orchestral flautist, a pre-teen paleontologist, and more— What do they have in common? Each of them came into being as a spark of inspiration, climbed aboard a train of thought, and traveled to the pages of this book. Note The Unscheduled Stops print edition contains four stories not available in the digital edition.

6 Short Stories: As with the poems there is also a brief description of the inspiration for each story.

Daisy's Love at War - Short story about Daisy Patterson’s love for a young soldier away at war. Since Daisy had dementia it was difficult for the volunteer at the nursing home to know if Daisy was lost in actual memories or if she was lost in the pages of a story she had written. However, Daisy had no doubt whatsoever.

No Cookies Today - WOW! This is one that can move you to tears simply by reminding you what is important in this life. As the song says, "Love isn't love 'til you give it away."

Thief's Moon - Erotic. Not suitable for younger readers.

Chance - Should she take a chance on finding love in a club? Or will it be another lonely night once she gets home?

A Startling Character - Interesting story about writing a story.

Moving On - Sad picture of the end of a marriage. Wallow a little longer.

5 Poems: A good poem does not need to be explained, but sometimes it is nice to know the inspiration so I appreciated that information at the beginning of each poem.

LIVING DEAD - free verse. Sad. Possibly angry. Least of my favorite poems in the book, possibly because it is so down. However, as a poet I have also written some poems from the scary, sad, and dark places in my life. Life is not always happy, and a poet writes about the good, bad, and ugly (and sometimes imagination). I'm just not angry very often so this wasn't a favorite, but that is not meant to suggest it is bad. Just not what I prefer.

POSSESS - free verse. Love. I liked it much better than the first one. As a poet I am just particular about what I like, and I really enjoyed this one.

DESIRE - short. Dark (as in vampire). Again not my norm, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

LANDLOCKED - Sad. Clearly a disagreement between the title and the subject. Definitely moving past "landlocked", but sometimes that works.

TOO MUCH - Sad. Been there, done that, and completely understand from whence the author speaks. Definitely the longest of the poems, but still short and a quick read.

The Unscheduled Stops Sinead MacDughlas David J Ford Books Reviews

Very poor. Waste of time..
The first story was the best one. The rest seemed like good in-class works, which is about what the author said they were.
There are poems and short stories, all a great introduction to a fabulous author! Take this opportunity to get to know Sinead MacDughlas then move on to her novels, they are excellent!
Probably my favorite story of the whole book was "Daisy's Love at War." Definitely a taste of the unexpected there. I really didn't see that one. The whole collection is pretty good. Our whole life a series of unscheduled stops if you really think about it. This isn't a very long read but all of the stories are quite touching.
"The Unscheduled Stops" by Sinead MacDuglas is written from her heart and immersed in her soul. Sinead clearly took her time to craft the stories in such a way that I found myself feeling like I was right there with the story teller. From her first story, "Daisy's Love at War" I was drawn in to Sinead's world. This book is aptly named. With every story, and each poem, Sinead had me on a journey of emotions that I did not want to depart.

This book, while only 44 pages will keep your attention and entertain you from start to finish. Sinead is a unique talent that must not be missed. For a thoroughly enjoyable read, you must treat yourself to "The Unscheduled Stops"
I downloaded this read on a whim...and without regret. While every page is beautifully written, as with any anthology...I have my favorite. No Cookies Today was truly exceptional. I even had to sit my children down and read it to them. My son decided to use it for his reading log and share it with his class. It was a huge hit. Thank you, Sinead MacDughlas for an absolute treat. I'm honored to have this book among my list of favorites. *Barbie Shannon <3
I was fortunate to be gifted this book and am very happy I read and enjoyed it.
It is a very quick read that leaves the reader wanting more.

Unscheduled Stops does indeed take you on a journey. The poems, essays and short stories along the way allow you to feel and explore a range of emotions. Sinead is a gifted wordsmith.

Recently I had been reading some graphic romantic fiction and I want to say that I appreciated and enjoyed the romantic encounter in this collection far more. The word pictures were clear but she allows the reader to form images and emotions of their own.

As other reviewers have mentioned there are short stories that make you want to reach in and hug the characters. There are poems that make you want to comfort the author.
Even if this is not your usual type of book or novella, you will be glad to experience it.
